Shakespeare Book Club: Hamlet

Shakespeare Book Club is our favorite way for our audiences to meet and discuss the plays being performed in our season. Ever wonder how a director prepares an abridged script of a Shakespeare play? What method of text analysis takes place to determine what is cut and what makes it onto the stage? If you missed out on our previous book clubs, you are invited to experience that process at our book club for Hamlet!

Led by Artistic Associate Jenni Stewart and actor/scholar T.A. Taylor, these gatherings are comfortable, fun, and promise great discussions. The club will meet for eight sessions to read and discuss the unabridged text of Hamlet in the context of the upcoming play, provide a behind-the-scenes look at the production process, and receive an invitation to exclusive events.

Synopsis: Young Hamlet returns home from university to discover the world-shattering news that, not only is his father (Old Hamlet) newly dead, but that his mother, Gertrude, has married Old Hamlet's brother, Claudius, and that Claudius is now king. The resultant instability has also led to threats of invasion by a soldier from a neighboring state, Fortinbras.
