Shakespeare Unplugged encompasses several outreach and educational efforts including the popular staged reading series, StageNotes and actor and community trainings. This program offers Shakespeare Dallas the opportunity to explore the lesser-known works in Shakespeare’s canon, the works of Shakespeare’s contemporaries, and new works based on the Bard’s plays such as BOY which was performed in early 2010.
Shakespeare Unplugged also helps the community gain a deeper understanding of the plays, the motives behind them and the characters. Our intimate staged reading series is also a place to have an open dialogue with the audience about their areas of interest and which of the plays might be suitable for Shakespeare in the Park. In 2011, Shakespeare Dallas also started the Poet’s Society for its upper-level members. The Poet’s Society was created to give members a chance to network and attend special events with people that have a shared interest in the arts in Dallas.
