Shakespeare Unplugged encompasses several outreach and educational efforts including the popular staged reading series, StageNotes, and actor and community trainings. This program offers Shakespeare Dallas the opportunity to explore the lesser-known works in Shakespeare’s canon, the works of Shakespeare’s contemporaries, and new works based on the Bard’s plays such as BOY which was performed in early 2010.
Shakespeare Unplugged also helps the community gain a deeper understanding of the plays, the motives behind them and the characters. Our intimate staged reading series is also a place to have an open dialogue with the audience about their areas of interest and which of the plays might be suitable for Shakespeare in the Park. In 2011, Shakespeare Dallas also started the Poet’s Society for its upper-level members. The Poet’s Society was created to give members a chance to network and attend special events with people that have a shared interest in the arts in Dallas.
Hamlet Book Club
Shakespeare Dallas has launched a new opportunity for our audiences to meet and discuss the plays being performed in our season for the Winter of 2018/2019!
Ever wonder how an acting company prepares to stage a Shakespeare play? What method of text analysis and discussion take place in the rehearsal hall to allow an actor to perform a Shakespearean role to the best of their ability? You are invited to experience that process at our Book Club for Hamlet!
Led by Associate Artistic Director Jenni Stewart and actor/scholar T.A. Taylor, Book Club gatherings are comfortable, fun and promise great discussions. The Book Club will meet for four sessions to read and discuss the upcoming play, provide a behind the scenes look at the rehearsal process, and receive an invitation to an exclusive dress rehearsal.
