Boy
By Erik Ehn
A Staged Reading directed by Executive & Artistic Director Raphael Parry
April 30 & May 1, 2010, 8:00 p.m.
Boy, a new play by Erik Ehn, began with an interest in making Shakespeare more accessible to a new contemporary audience by removing arcane settings, lifting characters out of their original contexts, and creating rich interactions born out of the American psyche. The result is a postmodern exhibition, whereby the company jumps through a rabbit hole opened in Macbeth’s world, and the audience then follows the cross-dressing twin sister of Hamlet through a series of adventures that bring her into relationships with other Shakespearian characters as well as new characters derived from twentieth century American lore.
