Ages of Shakespeare examines the evolution of Shakespearean acting--from the more measured, lyrical approach of the late 19th century to the faster, more vernacular speech of today--using recordings, video and live actors. As the center of the entertainment and cultural universe shifted westward from London to New York; as more and newer kinds of recording technology became available; as our ears became attuned to the cacophonous jangle of modern life, styles of Shakespearean acting changed to keep up.
