Shakespeare Dallas Partners with Las Colinas Symphony to Tell the Tale of Two Star-Crossed Lovers
February performance of the Bard & The Band presents music, scenes from Romeo and Juliet
DALLAS….January 30, 2012 – If music be the food of love, play on, which is exactly what Shakespeare Dallas and the Las Colinas Symphony Orchestra (LCSO) will do February 16-18. The Bard and the Band series, a joint venture between the LCSO and Shakespeare Dallas, will present a heartfelt performance of classical composers and pieces inspired and intertwined with famous scenes and soliloquies from perhaps the most well-known love story ever told: Romeo and Juliet.
Just in time for Valentine’s Day, this love letter to the audience features five musical perspectives of Romeo and Juliet: the ever popular Fantasy-Overture by Tchaikovsky, excerpts from the ballet by Prokofiev, the Love Scene from the symphony by Berlioz, the overture from Bellini’s opera, and Bernstein’s Symphonic Dances from West Side Story.
“Romeo and Juliet is among one of the most powerful love stories ever written, and by pairing it with the music it inspired, we hope that the audience will be able to enjoy it at a deeper and more meaningful level,” said Shakespeare Dallas’ Executive and Artistic Director Raphael Parry. “Performing with the LCSO is a great experience and a wonderful opportunity for Shakespeare Dallas. In addition, it allows both stage and symphonic audiences to hear these works of literature in a way that enhances the experience of both.”
The Bard & The Band’s February performances will take place Feb. 16 at Arlington Music Hall ( 224 North Center Street Arlington, TX 76011) at 7:30 p.m., Feb. 17 at the Garland Performing Arts Center ( 521 W State St Garland, TX 75040) at 8 p.m., and Feb. 18 at the Irving Arts Center ( 3333 N Macarthur Blvd, # 300, Irving, TX 75062) at 8 p.m.
